Our curriculum has been designed to provide contextual knowledge combined with the skills necessary for our children to gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. In Terms 1 and 6 the whole school explores the same umbrella topic as this enables each year group to create connections and develop an understanding of the wider narratives in the historical and geographical sphere.
Our history curriculum focuses on many of the significant eras in British and world history. It has been designed so the children can make connections between different periods in time, thus deepening their understanding of how the past has affected the present day on a local, national or international level. To encourage interest, engagement days are often used to help transport children into the era they are studying. We have found that it is these experiences that the children remember, and they provide a catalyst for future learning.
This sequenced approach has been planned across the school to ensure our children develop the skills and enthusiasm needed to become life-long learners.
