  • Keeping Up With The Children Course - Maths

    Mon 26 Mar 2018

    Dear Parents/Carers

The Keeping Up With The Children English course that we have booked in for Term 5 will be postponed for now and it will be replaced with a maths course instead, please see below for all the details.

The maths course is designed to familiarise adults with a range of new calculation methods and mental maths strategies currently used to teach maths in primary schools. It aims to help adults feel confident in supporting their children's learning in maths whilst providing an opportunity to brush up their own skills. It can be used as a route onto a longer maths course with accreditation at the end.

    Content will include:

    • Look at new methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division taught in schools and compare with traditional formal written methods.
    • Identify the age/stage expectations and key objectives in the KS1 and KS2 numeracy curriculum.
    • Discover hints and tips to help learn times tables.
    • Use the grid method and chunking when multiplying and dividing.
    • Understand what is meant by number bonds, partitioning, place-value and other mathematical terms and vocabulary which may be new and unfamiliar.
    • Make number lines, hundred squares, arrow cards, number fans and additional resources to support maths learning at home.
    • Carry out practical activities with shape, metric measures and data handling.
    • Explore and evaluate useful maths resources including maths dictionaries and those available on line.

The course is for parents/carers only and it will run for two hours every Thursday 9.30am - 11.30am, starting on Thursday 19th April and ending six weeks later on Thursday 24th May.

    The course is completely free!

Please let the office know if you are interested in attending or if you have any further questions/queries.

    Many thanks

Light refreshments will be available at the interval as well as the chance for the children to play some extra fun games too. Please remember that a responsible adult must accompany all children.

In preparation for the bingo evening there will be a non-uniform day on Monday 26th March. In return for wearing their own choice of clothes, we request that each child bring to school with them either Easter eggs, mini eggs, cream eggs (but preferably not foil wrapped chicks/bunnies) etc, which will be used at the bingo evening that night.

  • Book area competition

    Tue 20 Feb 2018
During Term 3 each class took part in a friendly competition to re energise their book areas. They were then judged by members of The School Council - Erin, Sam R, Sam B and Kian. They took the job very seriously taking into account the creativity of the book area alongside how the books themselves were displayed. It was lovely to see such fabulous ideas and how the classes were so different. Jaguar Class won the competition and they will be able to choose some new books at the forthcoming Book Fair to add to their classroom shelves. Second place went to Panther Class and third to Chameleon. A big well done to each class for making such a wonderful effort!
  • Many thanks to The Friends

    Mon 05 Feb 2018

Each term The Friends are kindly funding the purchase of some newly published books which are refreshing library stocks. This time, the School Council helped Mrs Flewitt to choose what to get. There was much excitement and discussion around the choices and a good spread of ideas. The Friends are also continuing to fund the purchase of subscriptions to magazines and comics which are available in the library for all children to read. Ask your children what magazines they have been reading.

  • World Book Day - Thursday 1st March 2018

    Mon 05 Feb 2018

    Dear Parents/Carers

We will be taking part in World Book Day on Thursday 1st March. This year the children can choose between two options in order to celebrate the day. They can either dress up as a book character or bring in a clue of their favourite book. The clue can be written or an object; we hope that this will encourage lots of discussion around what the book could be.

    Further details to follow.

  • Busters Book Club

    Wed 17 Jan 2018

    Dear Parents/Carers

The new Busters Book Club newsletter will be going home with your child today as we're getting ready to start recording the children's reading minutes from next Wednesday. They will receive their new spring bookmarks soon ready to record their minutes for Buster each Wednesday.

We obviously want the children to read every evening but Wednesday is the day where we read for Buster. Every Thursday we will look at the bookmarks and add up the scores to see which class has come top.

Each week a trophy is awarded to the winning class and there will be extra prizes to be won across terms 3 and 4.

As your child moves through the school their reading target will grow. In Reception and Year One they should aim to read (or share a book) for 10 minutes per day. In Years 2 and 3 it is 15 minutes per day and in Years 4, 5 & 6 it is 20 minutes per day.

Your child's ability to read is critical to their educational success and the job prospects that follow when they leave school - and being a confident reader is key to this.

We appreciate your support with reading at home and hope Buster helps to motivate the children.

    Many thanks
