Dear Parents/Carers
We have organised a trip for both Reception classes to visit Pizza Express, where they will have a go at making their own pizzas. This trip will complement the learning taken place in class based around our current topic as we have been learning about where food comes from.
We shall be travelling both to and from Canterbury in the school minibus. In order to reach Canterbury on time we would like the first group of children to leave by 8.45am, if possible please arrive at school as near to 8.30am on the day of your child's trip. We will be returning back to school by 11.30am. The children will bring their pizza home at the end of the day therefore they will still need lunch in school on this day.
Squirrel Class will be going on Thursday 14th April
Mole Class will be going on Friday 15th April
In order for the trip to take place we will need parent volunteers to accompany us, if you are able to help on either or both days please let us know.
If you have any questions about the trip, please don't hesitate to ask.
Permissions slips have gone home with the children, please return by Thursday 24th March.
Dear Parents
Sports Relief 2016
As last week was such a busy week, we have decided to hold our 'walk, jog or pass-a-mile' for this year's Sports Relief on Thursday 24th March.
Weather permitting; the activities will take place on the school playground or field (for KS2) at different times throughout the day.
Your child may wear something sporty and/or something red on the day. We would like to raise some money and suggest children bring a small donation.
The children will need their plimsolls or a pair of trainers.
In previous years children have: walked, jogged, three legged or indeed bounced or passed a ball over the distance of a mile!
The younger children will be able to complete a suitable distance but it will not be a full mile. Year 6 will help their buddies.
Thank you for your support.
Yours Sincerely
Mr Cheetham and Year 5 Sport Crew.
Dear Parents
We would first of all like to thank all of those who helped us with the last cake sale. There will be a chance for Year 2 children to show off their baking skills on Tuesday 22nd March.
All your child has to do is to make some cakes at home, then bring them into school on the morning of the cake sale.
The stall will be set up by the gates in the playground at school pick up, where you can buy as many delicious cakes as you would like!
Happy baking!

All the Year 1 and 2 children are taking part in our new Reading Superheroes initiative and they will have brought you a letter home in order to explain how the system works. We are really hoping that it encourages the children to be keener than ever to read at home, in order to increase their 'reading mileage'. Each week, the class that collectively reads the most at home, will be rewarded with the Reading Treasure Chest to use in class.
Weekly class totals and the winners will be posted in the window of the lobby next to Hedgehog Class.
The local newspaper ran a story about schools celebrating World Book Day and some of our photographs were included. Check the Canterbury Times website to have a look.
Book Fair will be open in the school foyer on Monday 7th March, Tuesday 8th March and Thursday 10th March from 3:15pm until 3:45pm. Children will also have the opportunity to visit at lunchtimes. If your child is a Book Saver, they can spend their savings at the fair so please try to send them in with their card. When you buy books at the fair, the school earns rewards which can be exchanged for books to use in class or for the library, so we really appreciate your support. Your child will be bringing home a leaflet which has a selection of some of the books available and there is a competition to enter.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Bird Box Project
You may have noticed that we have a new bird box attached to the front of the school (by the entrance). It is very exciting as this bird box has a camera inside and is now linked to our school website. Hopefully a bird will decide to make a home in our new bird box and as Spring comes, we will be able to watch the eggs hatch and the chicks develop.
In the meantime, we need to encourage small birds into the area, so Eco Club are running a bird feeder competition. If you would like to participate please make a bird feeder at home and fill it full of tasty treats birds like. Bring it to Miss Judge on a Thursday or Friday and Eco Club will choose a winner for a prize! The closing date for the competition is Thursday 10th March and a winner will be announced in the celebration assembly on 11th March. You can bring your completed bird feeder into school as soon as it's ready and we will see which birds choose to use it. I can't wait to see your ideas. Thank you.

We plan to celebrate World Book Day on Friday 4thMarch. As part of this, the children will be taking part in book themed activities throughout the day.
Just to add to the fun, the children can either come fully dressed up or wearing a decorated hat; either with a book related theme. Prizes will be awarded in Celebration Assembly during the afternoon.
On the same day, there will also be a sale of books with our popular £1 Book Seller from 3pm. During the afternoon, the bookseller will visit each class and the children can spend their World Book tokens if they wish. The tokens can also be used at the Scholastic Book Fair (following week, 7th to 10th March) or in book shops in town but not at the after school sale.
We do hope that the children enjoy this great opportunity to foster an enjoyment of books and reading for pleasure.
Lots of further information and activities can be found on the World Book Day website www.worldbookday.com
